Applications for funding under the Specialist Training Program are advertised when grants are open. Please refer to categories below for more information regarding funding opportunities.

2014 Application Round

The Specialist Training Program (STP) is designed to provide opportunities for medical specialist trainees to rotate through an expanded range of settings beyond traditional public teaching hospitals, in pursuit of becoming a fellow of a recognised specialist medical college

Priority areas are set out in the STP Priority Framework, and eligibility criteria is set out in the STP Operational Framework. It is important to refer to these documents when completing the application on behalf of your organisation.

Applications for 2014 have closed. At this stage, the RCPA has not received any information from the Department of Health regarding any future application rounds

Rural Supplementation Funding 2015 - up to $15000 per annum

This funding is available annually to trainees who are located at a rural or regional training sites assist trainees with conference allowance, study visits, research projects and equipment purchases. Trainees and supervisors are required to submit an application in line with the Guidelines for Rural Supplementation Applications document to be eligible for funding.

Applications for Rural Supplementation Funding 2015 are now open. Applications will close at 5.00pm on Monday 16 March 2015.

Support Project Funding

Rural Support & Training Development Grant Funding

A total of $6.6 million was allocated to Rural Support Initiatives and a further $2.8 million for Training Network Development Initiatives for 2010-2015. A final application round for Rural Support initiatives was held in April 2013. Interested parties apply directly to the RCPA for funding for Rural Support Initiatives that will support rural pathology within Australia. Funding for these activities has been provided by the Department of Health under the Specialist Training Program, and all funded projects must be completed by 31 December 2015.

Applicants are required to complete the application form and address each of the criteria to be eligible for Rural Support funding.

Successful applications to date have included:

  • Videoconferencing and tele-microscopy installations
  • e-learning projects (several disciplines)
  • Training workshops
  • Building improvement projects
  • RCPA on-line education portal and digital library
  • Expansion of the RCPA BPS MCQ bank
  • Training webinars
  • RCPA Rural Education Outreach

Applications for funding for 2014 are now closed. Any new funding rounds will be announced on the website when they are open.
