Appropriate Tests

 

Blood culture - ensure request alerts laboratory to the possible diagnosis, as Brucella spp may take up to two weeks to grow and laboratory handling of the organism is hazardous.

Brucella Ab.

Bone marrow biopsy (aspiration) for culture, when there is a strong clinical suspicion and serological tests and blood cultures are negative.
Full blood count, Urea, Creatinine, Electrolytes, Aspartate aminotransferase, Alanine aminotransferase, Alkaline phosphatase, C-Reactive protein to follow progress.

Granulomatous hepatitis

Liver biopsy with bacterial culture.
