Appropriate Tests

 

Hepatitis C serology.

HCV viral load and Hepatitis C genotyping.

Urinalysis, Bilirubin, Aspartate aminotransferase, Alanine aminotransferase, Alkaline phosphatase, Full blood count.

Acute hepatitis

Hepatitis C nucleic acid (HCV RNA) may be required for diagnosis if seroconversion has not yet occurred.

Chronic hepatitis

Hepatitis C nucleic acid (HCV RNA qualitative) to determine infectivity.

Liver biopsy may be indicated.

Alpha-fetoprotein monitoring for detection of hepatocellular carcinoma.

Quantitative Hepatitis C nucleic acid (HCV RNA) and Hepatitis C genotyping is indicated as part of the pre-treatment assessment.

Cirrhosis

 

Hepatocellular carcinoma
