Causes

Appropriate Tests

 

MCS sputum only if laryngitis is severe or recurrent.

Viral infection

  • Parainfluenza
  • Influenza
  • Rhinovirus
  • Adenovirus

NPA for respiratory virus PCR if available.

Bacterial infection

  • Moraxella (Branhamella) catarrhalis
  • Haemophilus influenzae
  • Corynebacterium diphtheriae

Throat swab for culture.

Granulomatous infection

  • Mycobacterium tuberculosis
  • Candida albicans

Laryngoscopic biopsy with Mycobacteria testing, MCS fungal (fungal microscopy and culture).
