Causes

Appropriate Tests

 

MCS sputum including culture for mycobacteria and fungi.

Solitary

Sputum cytology; bronchial brush, wash; bronchoalveolar lavage for cytology and/or microbiological testing.

Fine needle aspiration biopsy, Bronchial biopsy, Lung biopsy (lesion) as appropriate, with EGFR and microbiological testing if indicated.

Infection

  • Lung abscess
  • Tuberculosis
  • Fungal infection (including dimorphic fungi ie histoplasmosis)

 

Lung neoplasm

  • Lung carcinoma
  • Lymphoma (classification)
  • Carcinoid tumour

 

Hamartoma

 

Pulmonary infarct
