Appropriate Tests

 

Existence in Australia is controversial, seek advice on locally acquired disease.

Borrelia burgdorferi Ab. Borrelia PCR.

For possible overseas acquired cases:

A compatible clinical illness; and IgM and IgG serology initially, repeat in 6 weeks if required; then Western blot only if positive screening serology. Western blot should not be used for screening.

Borrelia culture is the gold standard and should be discussed on a case by case basis.

Borrelia PCR should also be discussed on a case by case basis.
