Appropriate Tests

 

Malignancy must be excluded in all cases.

Full blood count and Blood film; see Iron deficiency.

Urea, Creatinine, Electrolytes, Glucose, Liver function tests, Blood group and antibody screen (EDTA).

Consider citrate.

Fresh or occult blood

Endoscopic Colorectal biopsy - lesion and/or mucosa, if indicated.

Anal fissure

 

Rectal trauma

 

Diverticulitis

 

Colorectal carcinoma

 

Polyps

 

Vascular malformation
