Strongyloides stercoralis is the roundworm causing the disease of strongyloidiasis. An unusual feature of S. stercoralis is autoinfection. Strongyloidiasis in immunocompetent individuals is usually an indolent disease. However, in immunocompromised individuals, it can cause a hyperinfective syndrome (also called disseminated strongyloidiasis).

Active disease Ova cysts parasites faeces, Serology for prior exposure.

Rarely respiratory specimens in the immunosuppressed.
