Specimen:

Random urine collection.

Method:

HPLC (creatinine is assayed also, and the result expressed as a ratio, HVA/creatinine).

Reference Interval:

Depends on age - consult pathologist.

Application:

Diagnosis and monitoring of neuroblastoma and ganglioneuroma.

Interpretation:

Levels are increased in most but not all of these tumours.
