Isohaemagglutinin titre

Specimen:

5 mL blood in plain tube.

Method:

Plasma reacted, over a range of dilutions, with red cells of known ABO blood group.

Reference Interval:

Consult laboratory.

Application:

Investigation of immune deficiency especially humoral deficiency.

Interpretation:

Absent or low titres of anti-A or anti-B isohaemagglutinins in individuals of the appropriate ABO blood group suggests humoral immune deficiency (eg, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome).
