Phosphatidyl glycerol

Keywords: Phosphatidylglycerol

Specimen:

5 mL amniotic fluid.

Method:

Immunoassay, chromatography.

Reference Interval:

Detectable when fetal lung maturity is present.

Application:

Determination of fetal lung maturity, usually as an adjunct to Lecithin-sphingomyelin ratio.

Interpretation:

Phosphatidyl glycerol production commences at about the time lung maturity develops.

It may be more reliable for the assessment of fetal maturity in diabetic pregnancies than the Lecithin-sphingomyelin ratio.
