Properdin factor B

Specimen:

10 mL blood in plain tube. Specimen transported on melting ice.

Method:
  1. Lysis of red cells in agarose containing heat treated (50°C) normal serum.

  2. Nephelometry.

Reference Interval:

Consult pathologist.

Application:

Diagnosis of complement abnormalities; may assist in defining the cause of Glomerulonephritis.

Interpretation:

Reduced levels indicate activation of the alternative complement pathway.
