Specimen:

2-5 mL blood in plain tube.

Method:

Immunoassay.

Reference Interval:

Method dependent; titre typically < 16.

Application:

Diagnosis of Toxocara canis or Toxocara cati infection causing visceral larva migrans or ocular larva migrans (usually in children).

Interpretation:

A single positive result is not proof of active infection.

A rising or falling titre may be diagnostic in the appropriate clinical setting.

A negative result does not exclude the diagnosis.
