Specimen:

5 mL blood in a plain tube.

Method:

Immunoassay.

Reference Interval:

35-120 pmol/L.

Application:

Suspected abnormality of vitamin D, not affecting 25-hydroxy vitamin D.The assay is rarely required clinically.

Interpretation:

Normal levels of 25-hydroxy vitamin D with increased 1,25-dihydroxy vitamin D levels may be seen in patients with Sarcoidosis and after excessive calcitriol intake.

Low levels are seen in some forms of hereditary rickets.
