Overseas Trained Specialists

International Medical Graduates can either be Overseas Trained Specialists or Overseas Trained Doctors

  • Overseas Trained Specialist Pathologists
    As of 1 July 2014 Overseas Trained Specialist Pathologists (those international medical graduates who have obtained specialist pathology qualifications in their country of origin) who wish to work in Australia will now apply directly to the College for a determination of their comparability to an Australian trained pathologist. Applicants must note that Australian citizens and permanent residents are given priority in the allocation of training positions.

  • International Medical Graduates / Overseas Trained Doctors
    Overseas Trained Doctors (those who are not yet Specialist Pathologists in their country of origin) who wish to work in Australia and undertake pathology training will also need to contact the Australian Medical Council (AMC)

Step Guides
In order to assist Overseas Trained Doctors/International Medical Graduates and prospective employers, the College has developed a series of step guides that explain in detail the process required by the RCPA, and the Australian Medical Board (AHPRA*) when applying for Assessment and Registration.
*AHPRA is the administrative arm of the Medical Board of Australia which is responsible for medical registration.
