Dr Raj Patel

Raj Patel

Dr Patel is Associate Professor of Pathology and Dermatology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. He received his M.D. degree from Flinders University School of Medicine in Adelaide, Australia and completed his residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the Cleveland Clinic, where he served as Anatomic Pathology Chief Resident. Dr Patel completed fellowships in surgical pathology and soft tissue pathology, the latter under the directorship of Dr Sharon Weiss, at Emory University. He then returned to the Cleveland Clinic for his Dermatopathology fellowship under the directorship of Dr Wilma Bergfeld. Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Michigan, Dr Patel was Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Western Australia School of Surgery and Pathology and Consultant Histopathologist and Dermatopathologist at PathWest Laboratory Medicine in Perth, Western Australia.  He is board certified in Anatomic Pathology and Dermatopathology and is the Director of the Bone & Soft Tissue Fellowship at the University of Michigan and Co-Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Sarcoma Alliance for Research through Collaboration (SARC) Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) Biospecimen Core.  Dr Patel is Assistant Editor for the Journal of Cutaneous Pathology and an Editorial Board Member of The American Journal of Dermatopathology and Pathology, Journal of the Royal Australasian College of Pathologists. He has authored over 60-peer-reviewed publications and has lectured and directed courses on soft tissue pathology and dermatopathology for the American Society of Dermatopathology, the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, the American Academy of Dermatology and the International Society of Dermatopathology. He also serves on committees of both the American Society of Dermatopathology and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology.
