Renewed NCSP “Live” from 1 December 2017

The new NCSP launched on Friday 1 Dec ember 2017 when the  seven new Medicare funded cervical screening pathology services (73070, 73071, 73072, 73073, 73074, 73075 and 73076) were  introduced. At the same time the six existing Pap test items (69418, 69419, 73053, 73055, 73057 and 73069) were removed from the Pathology Services Table. (For further information see MBS OnLine).

Support for Cytologists

With the launch of the new NCSP laboratories across Australia are restructuring their laboratory procedures and staffing arrangements to accommodate the new program. For some cytologists this has, as expected, led to major changes in their employment status, either by redeployment or through redundancy. The NCSP Pathology Workforce Project has put in place further resources to assist those cytologists who are most affected, including the provision of individual support sessions with Audrey Page and Associates consultants. For further details, please refer to Newsletter 14 in the section below.
