Appropriate Tests


Usually infective (especially Gram-negative bacilli).

May be associated with Prostatitis or Urinary tract infection.

MCS urine, Genital swab (urethral) to exclude Gonorrhoea and Chlamydia trachomatis infection.

Tuberculous epididymo-orchitis is usually associated with renal tuberculosis: Mycobacteria testing - urine.

Epididymal biopsy, with culture for Mycobacterium tuberculosis, only if the diagnosis is uncertain, as there is a significant risk of infertility as a result of the procedure.
