Specimen:Fresh stool, delivered as soon as possible to the laboratory (within 2-3 days). The specimen should be refrigerated only if a delay of >6 hours is likely.
Method:Immunoassay.
Application:Used to non-invasively detect current Helicobacter pylori infection.
Interpretation:Detects active infection by identifying H. pylori specific antigens (substances secreted by the bacteria) in a faeces sample.
