Anaemia is often multifactorial; causes may include reduced erythropoietin, Haemolysis, Blood loss and nutritional deficiencies.

Full blood count. Blood film, Reticulocyte count, Iron studies and Erythropoietin, prior to erythropoietin therapy.

Haemoglobin, Reticulocyte count and Iron studies to monitor erythropoietin therapy.
