The syndrome is characterised by arterial and venous thrombosis, an increased risk of miscarriage and fetal death and intra-uterine growth retardation.

Diagnosis is based on clinical findings in the presence of a significant titre of Cardiolipin Ab (titre >20 GPL units), Lupus anticoagulant or Beta-2-glycoprotein 1 Ab.
