Henoch-Schonlein purpura


Appropriate Tests


A systemic vasculitis with characteristic clinical features: Full blood count, Platelet count, Blood film, Prothrombin time, APTT, Electrolytes, Urea, Creatinine, Urinalysis.

Throat swab, Antistreptolysin O titre if there is a history of sore throat (to exclude alternative diagnosis).

Renal biopsy with Immunofluorescence if there is evidence of renal involvement (mesangial IgA deposits).

Skin biopsy (vascular IgA deposits).

Palpable purpura


Transient arthralgias / Arthritis


Abdominal colic


Gastrointestinal bleeding
