Infections in diabetics


Appropriate Tests

Diabetics are more prone to infection.  Increased infection risk occurs with poor diabetic control

Microscopy and culture, MCS urine.

Consider Blood culture x 2, Urea, Electrolytes, Glucose, Full blood count, Blood gas arterial (venous), Ward test urine and send for MCS if positive. See Guideline on Pathology testing in the Emergency department: Appendix 2.
