Appropriate Tests

 

MCS urine (urine microscopy and culture).

Urea, Electrolytes, Glucose, Calcium, Phosphate, Albumin, Urate, Beta HCG quantitation (Female), Full blood count.

Note: first episode tests suggested as per Guideline on Pathology testing in the Emergency department: Appendix 2.

Urinary tract calculi

 

Haematuria

Colic may occur due to obstruction by clots.

Renal papillary necrosis

Passage of the sloughed papillae may cause renal colic.
