Appropriate Tests


The diagnosis of trachoma is based on clinical assessment.

Chlamydia trachomatis

  • Serotypes A, B, C

Conjunctival swab/fluid with scraping for chlamydia testing may be appropriate if there is doubt about the diagnosis.

NAA testing available including genotyping.

Secondary bacterial keratitis

Conjunctival swab/fluid when secondary bacterial keratitis is thought to be present.
