RCPA advises against the widespread use of COVID-19 rapid antigen tests

The Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) advises against the widespread use of rapid antigen test for the diagnosis of COVID-19 in Australia and New Zealand in the current context of low prevalence of COVID-19 infections. As outlined in a new position statement from the RCPA, the preferred method for COVID-19 diagnosis is Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) molecular testing for the SARS-COV-2 virus, due to its high sensitivity and specificity.
