The Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) strongly supports the Government's greater focus on genomics in the Budget.  This follows the RCPA's successful application to the Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC) to introduce wider giagnostic testing in cystic fibrosis (CF).

The Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) is pleased to announce Associate Professor Bruce Latham as its new President, replacing Dr Michael Harrison who has completed his two year tenure in the role. In addition, Dr Michael Dray takes the position of the RCPA’s Vice President.

Today, the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) provides a new position statement to offer guidance on thyroid function testing in the Australian and New Zealand context in the adult population. The position statement provides a summary of the epidemiology of thyroid disease and the technical aspects of testing, and outlines recommendations for thyroid function testing for diagnosis and monitoring of thyroid disease.

Today, the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) has released a new position statement on best-practice guidelines on the use of iron studies, Ferritin and other tests of iron status. The new statement aims to assist clinicians, pathologists and pathology laboratories on the appropriate requesting of tests and testing strategies. It is designed to improve usability of pathology reporting, improve decision support, and provide standardised reports on iron studies.

Today, The Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) has announced new recommendations to reduce underutilisation in pathology testing in order to improve patient care. Reviews of published evidence estimate that, on average, the levels of underutilisation in pathology testing is substantially more prevalent (44.8%) than levels of overutilisation (20.6%).

The Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) would like to clarify its formal policy on non-medical and nurse practitioner requesting of pathology, as approved in February 2013. The RCPA does not endorse or have any partnership or alliance with any programs in relation to the non-medical requesting of pathology tests.
