Description: <p>Southern.IML Pathology is looking for a full time anatomical pathologist. FRCPA or equivalent qualification and Medical Board of Australia registration are required.</p> <p>Southern.IML Pathology is the major anatomical pathology provider for both Public and Private Hospitals, private clinics and radiology practices in the region from Southern Sydney to Narooma on the far South Coast. The practice runs a private laboratory as well as managing and providing pathologists for The Anatomical Pathology Department at Wollongong Hospital under contract from NSW Health Pathology. The pathologist could be based at either location. </p> <p>The dependence of the region on Southern.IML Pathology continues to grow and the practice recently moved into a new purpose built state of the art laboratory. The successful applicant will be working within a cohesive department using state of the art technology in a pathology practice that has served the region for 40 years. Southern.IML Pathology has a strong reputation for being innovative in the pathology and quality management fields. Contributing to ongoing research is an important focus within the practice.</p> <p>The practice receives a complex mix of Histology and Cytology samples from local and regional practitioners as well as hospitals. Our group of pathologists have extensive interaction with local specialists via regular multidisciplinary meetings including breast, urology, lymphoma, neurosurgery, thyroid, head and neck, lung and GIT. Dermatology samples (including for immunofluorescence) from local specialists, skin clinics and general practitioners are also sent to the practice.</p> <p>The successful applicant will be joining a team of pathologists interested in providing an expert local and regional service for the community. Southern.IML Pathology is accredited for registrar training in anatomical pathology for up to 5 registrars and our pathologists participate in registrar education. In house departmental meetings contribute to both registrar training and continuing education.</p> <p>As part of the Sonic Group of Pathology Practices, Southern.IML Pathology offers professional interaction with over 200 pathologists within the Group. Cooperative work practices between the groups are strongly encouraged as part of the federated Sonic Healthcare structure. Southern.IML Pathology is also extensively involved in and supports RCPA and NATA activities.</p> <p>Southern.IML Pathology is central to the pathology teaching at the University of Wollongong Graduate School of Medicine. Pathologists are encouraged to take part in teaching and research in their day to day work and with the University of Wollongong, The Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute, The Wollongong Hospital and referring practitioners.</p> <p>Wollongong is an outstanding part of Australia to live in with a rich cultural life, beautiful beaches, the Illawarra escarpment and National Parks. The population of Wollongong is 300,000 and is a short drive or train trip from Sydney’s southern suburbs. </p> <p>Recently graduated and established fellows are encouraged to apply.
