A position is now available at Southern.IML Pathology, for a Pathologist primarily in Clinical Pathology (Chemical Pathology & Microbiology). A General Pathologist could perform this role or the role could be undertaken by both a Microbiologist and Chemical Pathologist.
Note: Involvement in Anatomical Pathology reporting, for a General Pathologist is available.
FRCPA or equivalent qualification and Medical Board of Australia registration are required.
Southern.IML Pathology is the major pathology service provider for both private & public hospitals and community medicine in the region (from Southern Sydney to Narooma on the far South Coast of NSW). The practice runs laboratories in Wollongong (at both 45 Denison St and Wollongong Private Hospital) and in Nowra. As well, it supervises and reports Anatomical Pathology at The Wollongong Hospital.

Southern.IML Pathology is involved with the University Of Wollongong Graduate School Of Medicine and the Illawarra Medical Research Institute (IMRI). Pathologists are encouraged to take part in teaching and research within the region. Our Pathologists teach the undergraduate course in Medicine at the University of Wollongong. Pathologists are encouraged to take part in teaching and research.
The laboratory facilities are modern and the organisation is committed to both clinical and technical quality. The successful applicant is required to be an active participant in the laboratory quality control and assurance, as well as the supervision of clinical departments (clinical chemistry and/or microbiology).
As the principal Clinical Pathologist, validation and communication of pathology results with clinical doctors in the region will be a primary role of this position.
You will be joining a team of pathologists interested in providing an expert local service in their community. We are accredited for registrar training in anatomical pathology and all pathologists take part in their education. In house departmental meetings contribute to both registrar training and continuing education requirements.
