There are four prestigious prizes for original research by Trainees. Please view the policy guidelines below relating to these prizes for entry criteria and other details. Trainees entering multiple prize categories are not permitted to submit the same abstract under different prize categories. To be eligible for selection, a different abstract is required for each prize category. Those selected will have their abstract published in the supplement to the Journal Pathology.
DS Nelson Trainee Oral Prize
The RCPA offers the DS Nelson Trainee Prize for the best oral presentation of original research by a Trainee at the RCPA Pathology Update. It is awarded in honour of the late Professor David Selwyn Nelson, a distinguished pathologist, whose research covered haematology, immunology and microbiology. David Nelson was the editor of Pathology from 1985 to 1988. The DS Nelson Trainee Oral Prize is a 10 minute PowerPoint presentation. The DS Nelson is the flagship Trainee prize and three Trainees from any discipline will be shortlisted from abstracts to present.
RCPA Quality Assurance Programs Trainee Oral Prize
The RCPA QAP Trainee Oral Prize is awarded for the best oral presentation on a subject related to laboratory management, case studies and all aspects of Quality Assurance. The oral is a 10 minute PowerPoint presentation and two Trainees from any discipline will be shortlisted from abstracts to present.
Board of Education and Assessment Trainee Poster Prize
This prize is offered by the College’s Board of Education and Assessment for the best poster presentation of original research in any discipline by a Trainee at Pathology Update. Trainees are given the opportunity to summarise their posters in a three-minute time span with three further minutes for questions. Four Trainees will be selected from abstracts to enter this prize which is held on the Saturday morning of the Conference.
RCPA Quality Assurance Programs Trainee Poster Prize
The RCPA/QAP offer a poster prize for the best poster presentation by Trainees at Pathology Update on a Quality Assurance topic. Three Trainees will be selected from abstracts to present their QAP poster.
