Fellowship by Examination

The Faculty of Science by Examination pathway provides a structured Fellowship program to enable scientists to demonstrate competence in the following areas to a standard specified by the RCPA.

  1. Use professional judgement in advising clinicians on the requirements for investigations and in carrying out these investigations for patients as a member of the team providing clinical care.

  2. Maintenance of safe and effective service through the use of relevant quality assurance and audit tools, to appropriate national standards.

  3. Undertake scientific research, including the evaluation of scientific literature, to introduce new scientific procedures or solve diagnostic or therapeutic problems within their field.

  4. Apply the principles of evidence-based laboratory practice to inform health care decisions

  5. Provide innovative and strategic direction to the operation of the laboratory.

Currently, eligible candidates can register in the following disciplines:

  • Anatomical Pathology
  • Chemical Pathology
  • Forensic Science
  • Genetic Pathology
  • Haematology
  • Immunopathology
  • Microbiology

Please note: If you are seeking exemptions for recognised prior learning you will need to complete the Training Determination application.

Once you have agreed to your determination you will then complete the Initial Registration form to enrol in training.

If you are not seeking any recognition of prior learning then complete the Initial registration Form only.
